Here’s a closer look at the Huawei Mate XT triple-screen foldable

Now that Huawei has officially launched the Mate XT Ultimate Design in China, demo videos are surfacing online showing what the world’s first triple-screen phone with two foldable screens looks like in practice.

Multiple unboxing videos show the Huawei Mate XT coming in its unfolded position, which measures just 3.6mm (about 0.14 inches) thick at its thinnest point — making it thinner than Google’s 5.1mm (about 0.2-inch) Pixel 9 Pro Fold. When fully folded, the Mate XT measures 12.8mm (about 0.5 inches), a touch thicker than the 10.1mm (about 0.39 inches) Pixel 9 Pro Fold and the 12.1mm Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6.

A practical assessment of Gizmodo China shows that the display can be used to view multiple app windows at once, which can be adjusted into custom configurations. The Mate XT also comes with a special phone case that protects the device when folded and can also act as a stand to prop it upright when folded and unfolded.

A small loading wheel can be seen briefly in some videos when the phone switches from single-screen to dual-screen mode, but the display seems responsive enough when switching between horizontal and vertical orientations. A notable gripe seen in a video shared by Android Authority is that the display creases on both hinges are very visible at certain angles and lighting, which some may find disappointing — though not surprising given the current state of foldable displays. However, they hardly seem noticeable when you look at them head-on.
