More people turned on their televisions to watch the Texas Longhorns defeat the Michigan Wolverines in the Big House than any other game this season.
FOX’s Big Noon Saturday featured big names like Texas alumnus and superfan Matthew McConaughey, and the three-hour broadcast was watched by 9.35 million fans on the network, the most of any game on any network. The ratings also marked the most-watched broadcast of the day on any network.
National champion Michigan already had 2.56 million viewers for its opening game against Fresno State on NBC, and more than 19 million fans tuned in to watch its 2023 game against Ohio State.
The network’s lead play-by-play announcer, Gus Johnson, was covering the game alongside former Colorado star Joel Klatt. On the pregame show, four of the seven announcers predicted the Longhorns would win the game, but no one could have imagined that Texas would actually dominate the game the way it did.
Big Noon Kickoff travels to Tuscaloosa to take on No. 4 Alabama, which takes on unranked Wisconsin. Texas is unlikely to be in the spotlight again next weekend with a freshly defeated UTSA — games like Georgia vs. Kentucky, LSU vs. South Carolina or the afternoon game against Bryant-Denny are likely to be more exciting.
However, the 6 p.m. kickoff of Texas’ road to the top of the AP Rankings will be streamed on ESPN.
After the win in the Big House, American football fans will be watching Texas perform, no matter which team they play. And since the country watched unranked Northern Illinois beat Notre Dame, it’s safe to say that anything can happen.
