“Insane” Beetlejuice Beetlejuice drink criticized for ridiculous price

Beetlejuice fans have criticized the AMC-themed cocktail, saying it’s not worth the exorbitant price tag.

It’s not uncommon for a new film to get a food-related promo, whether it’s Art the Clown’s popcorn bucket from Terrifier or Deadpool & Wolverine’s pizzas.

However, fans of Tim Burton’s new film were in an uproar over AMC’s Beetlejuice 2-themed drink, with many arguing that the product wasn’t worth the high price tag.

The theater is selling a concoction called Sandworm Slayer, a neon blue vodka cocktail laced with sour gummy worms. One moviegoer posted a photo of the treat on X/Twitter with the caption, “I bought the AMC BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE drink. It was $31 bucks…”

The user added a photo of the cocktail’s official poster, which depicts the cocktail in a strange-looking glass that resembles the writhing bodies of the worms seen in the film.

Unsurprisingly, some fans were outraged that AMC would sell a drink that looked “basic” for such a high price, and they openly expressed their negative opinions.

“$31 for some vodka and some gummy worms would make me hate this movie,” wrote one viewer, while another added: “This is why people don’t go to the movies anymore.”

And a third fan commented: “Blue Gatorade and ice cream with some sourpatch gummies. AMC needs to be closed down.”

While the price of a cocktail may seem a bit high for a movie theater, there are a number of factors that could explain why it is so expensive.

First, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that the drink is made with 24 ounces of blue and black raspberry juice infused with “premium vodka,” so the theater is using more premium ingredients than plain blue Gatorade, and better ingredients come at a cost.

Second, while the user paid $31 for the drink at their California movie theater, AMC’s internal research found that the price for this cocktail at 92% of their other locations is $21 plus tax.

With alcohol prices having risen sharply in recent months, it’s not uncommon to pay between $18 and $25 for a cocktail by 2024.
