Calle spoke about her Supergirl casting in a previous interview. She broke barriers by becoming the first Latina to play the role, which has previously been played by Melissa Benoist, Laura Vandervoort and Molly Quinn, to name a few. Calle admitted that it was an “out of body experience” playing the character and she got emotional when she saw the footage. “I kind of became a five-year-old version of myself looking at this superhero that looked like me, and I couldn’t believe it. I started crying and I got really emotional. I wish I had had her when I was little,” she told People in June 2023. Reflecting on how she got the part, Calle said she didn’t know she was auditioning for the Supergirl role when she received a script titled “Untitled Warner Bros. Film.” “It was very secret.
